Question: What is Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum?

Answer: Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum (JPPM) is a bit difficult to describe because there are so many facets to this magnificent property. Located in the heart of Calvert County Maryland, JPPM consists of 560 acres on the Patuxent River & St Leonards Creek. Gifted to the State of Maryland on June 16, 1983 by Mrs. Jefferson Patterson, this state owned and operated facility is Marylands State Museum of Archaeology and History. It is also home of the Maryland Archaeology Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab), a world-class archaeology, research, conservation and storage research facility. There are numerous walking trails with more than 2-1/2 miles of shoreline trails. It is still a working farm. It is a history and heritage education facility, including programs in Archaeology and Native American education. Question: What are the hours of operation of JPPM?

Answer: JPPM is open to the public from April 15th to October 15th Wednesday through Sunday 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Question: Who are the Friends of Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum, what do they do?

Answer: The Friends of Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum (Friends of JPPM) is a membership, 501 (c) 3, non-profit organization, which raises funds to help support the archaeology, history, heritage and environmental education projects, programs and events at Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum.

Question: How can I become a member?

Answer: Becoming a member of the Friends of JPPM is easy! With several levels of membership opportunities available, you can join on-line or you can call, 410-586-8515. Click here to become a member of the Friends on our secure website.

Question: I would like to volunteer at JPPM. How do I do that?

Answer: First of all, Thank You for wanting to lend a helping hand. JPPM has a terrific volunteer program, with a variety of Volunteer opportunities. These opportunities range from helping out in the conservation Lab to assisting Master Gardeners in the restoration of the Pattersons historic gardens and lots of things in between. Question: If JPPM is Marylands Museum of Archaeology, are there any digs that take place there? If so, can non-professionals watch?

Answer: Actually, you can do much more than that! Each spring and summer, JPPM has its Public Archaeology Program open to the public, you can work side by side with archaeologists who will teach what they do, how they do it and why.
