President's View Points

September 2008

Aloha might seem like a strange introduction, however, I am writing these Points from the North Shore of Oahu.   And yes, it is spectacular here, but I can honestly say my heart is always in Southern Maryland which honestly is   "no place like home".

It is hard to imagine that summer is coming to a close, but that does not mean Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum is closing down shop.   In fact, the Park is open until November 3rd with plenty of activities on the schedule.   September begins the Friends Annual Benefit on the 6th, the Affair at Point Farm.   This year, it is an Affair with Southern Maryland Flair -- great food, drinks, live entertainment and terrific auction items.   Later in the month is the Friends-sponsored Tavern Night -- come pick up a mug and throw one back.   If you dress the War of 1812 theme, you'll get a discount.   Tavern Night will be followed by the North American Grand Tactical, held for the first time ever at Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum.   And you definitely don't want to miss American Indian Heritage Day, November 1st at the Eastern Woodland Indian Village.   Of course, you can always come to the Park for a walk in the woods or along the river's edge -- every visit I take is magical.

Whatever brings you to Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum, be sure to stop by the Visitor's Center.   Not only do they have new exhibits, but you can also pick up an application to join the Friends and be a part of the support system for our "no place like home" park.
