Want to Know a Dirty Little Secret? New event at Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum focuses on archaeology; lets visitors get their hands dirty. On April 18th, from 10:00 am 5:00 pm, Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum (JPPM) will be hosting Discovering Archaeology, a new event that will allow the public to experience archaeology and its many processes. Visitors can expect hands-on activities for all ages. Archaeological organizations from across the state will be in attendance with displays, exhibits, and artifacts from different sites in Maryland, including Historic St. Marys City and Annapolis Lost Towns project. Guided tours of the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab) are scheduled at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Visitors will be able to watch parts of the conservation process and speak with conservators, as well as view some of the MAC Labs collections. The active 18th century Smith St. Leonard site will also be open and interpreted by JPPM archaeologists. Primitive technology demonstrations will be ongoing in the Eastern Woodland Indian Village throughout the day. JPPMs Visitor Center will also feature the newly constructed FAQs of Archaeology exhibit, which is an interactive experience focused on some of the questions most frequently asked of archaeologists such as how they know where to dig and what they do with the artifacts that they find. This event is free and will be held rain or shine. Come get your hands dirty with us!
